Texas BOMA will hold its General Membership Meeting, April 11, 2008 in the Acadian room at the InterContinental Hotel. The meeting will begin at 7:30 am and end at 9:00 am. This meeting is open to all Texas delegates who are attending the conference. For more information, please visit Texas BOMA.

TDLR has informed SABOMA that Bills Wrecker Service's license is currently revoked under certificate 005043850c and 0539375VSF. Assured Towing is currently licensed under 0626224VSF as a vehicle storage facility. Their records do not show a towing company registered under the name of Assured Towing. TDLR suggests before renewing your contract, that you have either company provide their TXDOT or TDLR number for verification. Once you have been provided with this information, TDLR can validate the status of their certificate. If you are using these companies and they fail to provide you with this information, you are currently in violation of the State Towing Rules and Regulations. You will need to remove their signs and stop towing until you have a licensed towing company contract in place with proper signage installed.

Towing Company Licensing can be verified at cstowing@license.state.ts.us.

Effective January 1, 2008, an affidavit for new employees applying for this license will not be accepted. An 8 hour course must be taken first. The board is also considering changing renewals to require a 4 hour education course.

With the start of 2008 came a new tax for Texas businesses: The Margin Tax. The Margin Tax, enacted in 2006 and revised in 2007, officially became operational on January 1, 2008. It applies to businesses for their 2007 tax year. All businesses, even those who will owe no tax, must file a Margin Tax report. A business's annual Margin Tax report and payment is due on May 15, 2008. However, a business may receive an extension for filing the annual report by paying either 90% of the tax that will be due or 100% of the tax reported as due on the business's previous Franchise Tax report. A business that did not pay the Franchise Tax in 2007 does not have the option of using the 100% amount in 2008. The extension request and payment must be made by May 15, 2008. The extension on filing a business's annual report is good through November 15, 2008, at which time any unpaid tax will be due.
