1. Red Letter Day
Reminder About Sending Email Messages Since most of you (both vendors/suppliers and property/leasing managers) communicate electronically with your customers and prospects, you need to review the requirements of the CAN-SPAM law which became effective 1/1/04. You probably don’t think of yourself as a commercial emailer, but by the law’s definition, you are. This doesn’t mean that your messages are spam, only that the Act applies to them. Commercial email is defined very broadly as any electronic message that promotes your company or its products/services. The CAN-SPAM Act applies to essentially all businesses that use email, even charities. Furthermore, the law applies to individual messages as well as those broadcast to a group. Even if someone has specifically requested the information you’re sending them by email, there are rules you have to follow when sending commercial messages. Fines for violating the law are very steep ($11,000 per violation) and they accelerate at a frightening rate since every single noncompliant message you send counts as a separate violation.

3. LEED Workshop The Balcones Chapter of the USGBC invites you to attend a LEED-NC Technical Workshop Monday, May 7, 2007 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in San Antonio, TX. The workshop is certified for CEU credits. This workshop is a detailed exploration of LEED for new construction. You'll acquire the basic tools and insights you need to incorporate green building into your work, including examples of successful strategies for each credit. This workshop is highly recommended for LEED Professional Accreditation exam preparation. LEED for New Construction and Major Renovation (LEED-NC) is a green building rating system that was designed to guide and distinguish high-performance commercial and institutional projects, with a focus on office buildings. Practitioners have also applied the system to K-12 schools, multi-unit residential buildings, manufacturing plants, laboratories and many other building types. Feel Free to forward this information to friends, co- workers, and business acquaintances whom might be interested.
4. Golf Sponsorships Available Now Our March luncheon kicked off our golf tournament sponsorship sales and several categories are already sold out. Please check our website for details. 5. Tuesday's Colorful Riddle
What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and gray when you throw it away? Charcoal, of course. Cade Rensmeyer of Orion Partners was our first correct answer and he wins a free drink ticket to the upcoming trade show.
