SAWS wants to know: What are the greatest challenges you face when it comes to managing annual water costs and the irrigation systems on your property? They are developing an education program aimed at commercial users and would appreciate your input. Reply to me and I'll pass your comments along. 3. Please sign up for a committee soon if you are interested! Many of our committees oversee events early in the year and are already beginning their work. Don't get left out -- go to http://www.saboma.org/survey-mail.asp and make your selections right away!! 4. Is there any interest out there in attending instructor-led FMA courses? We tried it a few years ago and demand was too low for them to be successful, but it wouldn't hurt to ask again. If you would be willing and able to consistently participate as a student, let me know. 5. Don't forget about filing your TAS inspections for your construction projects over $50,000 (pre and post construction, final inspection/compliance) with TDLR. Over the past year, TDLR has gotten really serious about assessing fines in the areas of electrical, HVAC, boilers, ADA/TAS, etc. 6. Go BOMA! Make sure your owners know that BOMA International scored a substantial victory in late November when Congress approved the extension of the 15-year depreciation for leasehold improvements and the immediate expensing of brownfield clean-up costs. The cost savings to your properties are substantial and worth several times the amount of the dues investment. As a reminder, these two provisions were due to expire at the end of 2005. They will now extend through 2007. Plus, a one-year extension of the tax deduction for energy efficient buildings that was part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 set to expire at the end of 2007 was added to this legislation. 7. Did you hear about the fight between the dentist and manicurist? They were going at it tooth and nail!
