In 1984, San Antonio BOMA established a scholarship program at UTSA for full-time students seeking a degree of Building Development / Construction Management. Interest proceeds from the $10,000 endowment our association donated fund a couple of $300 awards per semester, renewable up to eight semesters. The scholarship was set up as a memorial for Charlotte Rainford, who was a dedicated BOMA member not only locally but also at the international level. She was a great supporter of education, especially the BOMI Institute’s designation program for property managers.

We are pleased to share with you some highlights on the students who were selected last year.

Jacob Housman is a senior pursuing a B.B.A. in Construction Management with a minor in Finance. His education goals are to graduate Cum Laude and then to pursue a master’s degree in either engineering or business administration. Jacob says, “Your generous contribution to my education is greatly appreciated. For someone to notice my hard work motivates me in a way that I cannot describe. This scholarship has not only helped to pay for my education, but it has also given a relief to my family and released some of the pressure that going to school gives. Your generosity will not be forgotten! Thank you.”

Amanda Horton is pursuing a B.B.A. in Construction Management and anticipates graduating in May of 2006. Her dream is to become a homebuilder and she is currently a member of the National Organization of Women in Construction. Amanda plans to attend graduate school in the near future, and she says, “I would like to thank you for selecting me as a recipient of the SABOMA Charlotte Rainford Memorial Scholarship. This award has helped me to focus more on my education as opposed to working many more hours. The extra time has made school much more enjoyable and helps me feel good about my professional direction. Thanks again for your generosity.”

UTSA’s College of Business is attracting an increasing number of promising students with the desire to earn business degrees essential in today’s knowledge-based and reapidly changing workplace. With the scholarship support SABOMA provides the college, we are making a transformational investment in the future of UTSA’s students and, through their accomplishments and growth, in the future of San Antonio.
