| SAWS Agrees to Postpone Low-Flow Requirement
Upon review of input received from SABOMA and other commercial real estate groups, San Antonio Water System (SAWS) has accepted our request to postpone the commercial low flow toilet provision in favor of a partnership to market low flow conversions. The revised ordinance is currently in the hands of the City Attorney’s office and we expect to review the final draft soon. It is scheduled to be presented to City Council on January 13, 2005. Both sides are optimistic that together we can develop a marketing plan that will get the job done without the provision in an ordinance. This compromise is an excellent example of benefits gained when opposing parties agree to talk through a contentious issue, and all those involved are to be congratulated for their participation in the process. We’d like to thank our Regular Members for their valuable input as the issue developed, and send lots of praise to Tomi Sue Beecham and Joi Taylor, the hardworking co-chairs of our Legislative Committee. Kelly DeFonte also provided valuable assistance along the way. In addition, we greatly appreciate the willingness of Dr. Calvin Finch and the SAWS staff to hear to our concerns.
